The Storey Arms

Loughborough, Leicestershire

About

Aimed to be the first community owned pub in Leicestershire. Now beaten to it by the Black Horse in Walcote.

The Storey Arms is a free house in the Leicestershire village of Osgathorpe. The current landlord will close the doors for the last time within the next few months. A determined group of residents are resolute the village will not lose its last remaining pub. It is common knowledge that 26 pubs are closing each week, and any hope that the pub will be bought by a new landlord is desperate, at best. There is a plan being developed that will enable local residents and the wider community to buy a share in a traditional English pub, through a community buy out. Once the pub is owned by the community a new tenant will be appointed who will run it as a profitable business, with constructive community input. This community owned model works, and there are now about 28 community owned pubs in the Great Britain. The Osgathorpe Community Pub Association (OCPA) was established in September 2013 and the members have been researching the most effective model of a community pub. The Parish Council is fully behind the plan and has registered the pub as a Community Asset. The OCPA has been in regular contact with the landlord to ensure that a smooth transition occurs. OCPA has already received grants to cover aspects of business development including developing a website, marketing and legal advice. This website will hopefully give you all the information you need for you to decide if you want to help to 'SAVE THE STOREY'. Or will yet another English pub close for good? If you want more information, please get in touch here. Please spread the word with Facebook and Twitter - buttons below! Together we can make sure that the Storey is still serving a good pint, a decent glass of wine and home cooked food in a cosy atmosphere for another 200 years!
